Re: Can I simulate a solar system?

I had in mind a game were just like defcon people are just lobbing nukes at each other, but upping the scale to one were you have to account for the motion and rotation of large bodies with gravitational fields, most collisions with planets would simply result in death.

Can I simulate a solar system?

Ok, so the manual already answers this, no, and while I don't plan on using a real life scale I would like to simulate objects much smaller than 100th of the size of the planets, and a much larger sun. So my questions are this 1. What are the penalties in simulating extremely large objects? Does the...

How do I learn about the methods box2d uses?

I've been using jbox2d for a while and I've made several attempts to dig into the source and try to learn a thing or two, and while I have a good handle on physics and collision detection there are a lot of things that escape me, right now the most obtuse things to me are the proxies. Googling hasn'...

Re: Is this still being worked on?

I use netbeans which handles maven projects. But I got the testbed working, I didn't swap out the jars for lwjgl because, well, I don't know exactly what maven is or how it works but as far as I could tell I was not allowed to use a jar that wasn't on some server(the github repository?), clicking on...

Is this still being worked on?

The last post by Villane was in Feburary and the last commit at github was in June 2009, and I've become interested in Scala lately so I thought I would ask what's going on with this project. Also, I downloaded the code and tried to run the test bed, but the jars for lwjgl in the project are too old...

Re: Optimizing the vector math

I likely know less than anyone else here about this subject but I had a suggestion, as a compromise between immutability and clean math perhaps you could cache your vectors. The obvious problem with that is that this cache will eat up a lot of memory, but Java does provide a SoftReference class that...

Re: Kinematic Bodies

Ok, I saw a post about 5 months ago saying that same thing so I was wondering were it is, of course, I'm not spending my free time maintaining the library so I'm not in a position to complain about timelines.=)

Re: Is this how a ContactFilter should work?

I think I found my problem, in my program I essentially connect each Actor to the ContactFilter to filter their own contacts, and I made this connection after creating the bullet body, and after some debugging I it seemed like jbox2d checks for any collisions when a body is created, so I simply conn...

Re: Disable Collision Detection

In jbox2d the interface is called ContactFilter and you pass it as an argument in World.setContactFilter.
